Who are you?
I am an instructional coach at The International School at Thornton Middle. Before coaching teachers, I taught Language Arts in the middle school for 14 years. I love middle school!
What led you to education?
Like most teachers say, I love working with kids and after 4 years working at a Salvation Army summer camp, I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
What do you have a knack for? How did you find that out?
I can find resources and like to create lessons and units that are relevant and fun for students. I began to collaborate with other teachers and it is through this work that I moved into coaching. It is so fun to be in a variety classrooms and work with teachers, and help them become leaders in their own schools.
What are you passionate about personally? What do you really enjoy? What can’t you stop talking about?
I have become very interested in helping teachers discover how to become leaders in their profession. It is fun to watch a teacher take control of their own growth and craft. I feel like we as educators need to be able to guide our own learning based on where we are in our careers and the students we partner with.
Where can we find you when you’re not working? What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or a Sunday afternoon?
I love spending time with my family! If it is up to my 4-year-old son, we would be at a Rockies game, or if it is up to my 8-year-old daughter we would be on a bike ride or getting our nails done. My husband and I enjoy watching football and of course an hour alone to read a good book would be fabulous!
What would be impossible for you to give up?
A year ago it would have been Coke Zero, but I finally have given that habit up! Now I love to watch TV. Movies, sports, reality or news, it is just relaxing to me.
